PYB aquire French picture book

We are very excited to announce our first foreign rights acquisition. Little Red Riding Hood, but not as you know it....

In a deal with French publisher Actes Sud, Phoenix Yard Books have acquired the world English language rights to Marjolaine Leray’s un petit chaperon rouge, to be published in November 2010 as Little Red Hood

Bursting with energy and oozing je sais quoi, we knew we had to publish this book the minute it arrived in the Yard.  Somewhere between graffiti and high art was born a streetwise little red scribble who owns the pages of this exceptionally funky 36 page picture book.

It’s always exciting to find wonderful books in other languages; an honour to give them a platform in English and a privilege to introduce our own readers to different books. We are very proud to have acquired a title from Actes Sud, a pioneering independent publisher with an admirable list.

Of course, a brilliant foreign language title merits a brilliant translator and we are equally delighted to confirm that the text will be translated into English by Sarah Ardizzone, winner of the 2009 The Marsh Award for Children’s Literature in Translation.

We’ve already had far too much fun with this book; we’ve probably driven everyone else in the Yard mad, raving about this book; many a home, school, bar, restaurant, park have hosted conversations as lively as the illustrations. In short: we're crazy about this book.
